Mandatory CPD for real estate professionals to begin from November 2026

As part of the Victorian Government’s Housing Statement released in September 2023, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) will become mandatory for real estate professionals across the state. This initiative is designed to enhance professionalism, boost industry skills, and ensure all practitioners remain current with changing regulations, practices, and industry expectations.

Who Will Be Affected?

Mandatory CPD will apply to all professionals in the real estate and property services industry, including:

  • Agents’ representatives

  • Estate agents

  • Property managers

  • Owners corporation managers

  • Conveyancers

Key Dates to Remember

Milestone Date
Final CPD regulations confirmed November 2025
CPD begins for agents & agents’ representatives 25 November 2026
CPD begins for owners corporation managers 30 June 2027

In addition, a registration scheme will be introduced for agents’ representatives.

What Happens Next?

The Victorian Government is developing new industry-wide regulations and consulting industry stakeholders, including the REIV, to finalise the new CPD framework. This includes:

  • Drafting and refining new CPD regulations

  • Establishing registration requirements for agents’ representatives

How the REIV Is Supporting You

The REIV has long advocated for mandatory CPD to lift standards across the sector. As this rollout progresses, we will:

  • Keep members informed about their obligations

  • Offer tailored training and resources

  • Deliver CPD courses to ensure compliance and education

Stay Informed and Prepared

We encourage all industry professionals to stay engaged, subscribe to REIV updates, and prepare for the upcoming changes. These reforms represent a positive step forward for the real estate industry in Victoria.
